This 2.0 hour course discusses Cultural Humility, a practice developed by Dr. Melanie Tervalon & Dr.Jann Murray-Garcia that emphasizes a commitment to lifelong learning and self-critique, mitigation of power imbalances and institutional accountability. The practice seeks to help us understand and accept our own limitations as it relates to the relationships we have with one another and the clients we serve. In this training, you will have the opportunity to explore the difference between Cultural Humility and Cultural Competence, experience real world examples of their impact and interact with tools that will help you along your journey.
Learning Objectives:
- Define and understand the concepts of culture, cultural competence, implicit bias and cultural humility.
- Distinguish the difference between cultural competence and cultural humility.
- Articulate ways of incorporating the principles of cultural humility in the work setting.
