Professional boundaries and building rapport are foundational to creating safety and generating positive outcomes with clients and incarcerated individuals. This x-hour course helps staff understand the importance of establishing professional boundaries and skill building towards establishing a professional alliance and rapport with the population in either community or correctional settings. The training includes interactive activities and scenarios to further illustrate how professional boundaries can be breached and the necessary steps to maintain a professional work environment. This course can contribute toward PREA standards 115.31 and 115.231 8, How to avoid inappropriate relationships with incarcerated individuals.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define dynamics of professional boundaries specific to correctional settings
  • Develop strategies to form and maintain healthy boundaries that encourage rapport-building and professional alliance building for community settings
  • Identify red flags, inappropriate behavior, and the consequences to safety and culture
  • Support a reporting culture and know how to report suspicious behavior or misconduct
